Middle School Part-Time Trainer

Part-Time Position

Global Kids, Inc. is seeking dynamic, hard-working, and creative individuals who are experienced in youth development, global education, and social action, and are interested in working in GK’s afterschool programs located in New York City public middle schools and supported by DYCD SONYC Initiative. We are seeking to fill multiple positions for our school-year program (September – June) with the potential for summer employment. COVID-19 vaccination is required. All positions will be in-person.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and co-facilitation of interactive, experiential workshops and activities for GK’s weekly school-based academic programs and after-school leadership groups.
  • Help develop and co-facilitate afterschool clubs.
  • Serve as a positive, encouraging & affirming mentor for GK middle school youth.
  • Conduct attendance outreach services including attendance monitoring, conferences, attendance incentive activities and phone calls.
  • Collaborate with GK staff and youth to generate new program ideas and content focusing on global/local issues.
  • Help with group management including supporting positive group interactions, monitoring group transitions between activities, ensuring safety during check in and dismissal and throughout the program hours.
  • Assist with chaperoning trips
  • Help to maintain necessary documentation, program data and attendance records and provide information for periodic progress reports.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience working with youth using interactive learning strategies.
  • Commitment to and understanding of working in culturally diverse settings and using antiracist practices
  • Knowledge of and passion for global issues, political science, history, education and social activism.
  • Excellent facilitation, consensus-building, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong work ethic, reliable, initiative, creativity, willingness to learn, and ability to complete multiple tasks independently.
  • Strong communication, writing, organizational, and technology skills.
  • International experience a plus
  • Fluency in other languages is a plus (particularly Spanish or Haitian Creole).
  • Background in the arts, sports, media literacy is a plus.
  • Global Kids alumni are strongly encouraged to apply.

Hours/Wages/Benefits

Part-time Trainers will be required to work September – June during afterschool hours, plus additional hours of training, preparation and follow up time at a time to be scheduled with GK staff (typically between 1:30 – 6 pm M-F, depending on the site placement). Position is paid $21 an hour for up to 20 hours per week. GK also offers paid vacation time off, personal day, and sick time. GK staff also have access to retail discounts through our Professional Employer Organization (PEO).
