Global Kids educates, activates, and inspires young people from underserved communities to take action on critical issues facing our world. Global Kids, Inc. is seeking a dynamic, hard-working, and creative individuals who have expertise in the Arts; (e.g. dance, theater, painting, sculpture, digital media, martial arts and/ STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) and or Literacy (e.g. Poetry, spoken word, book club). Experience in youth development and anti-racist practice and pedagogy is preferred. Interest in global education, social action, and providing coaching, and mentorship to middle school-aged young people in team-based setting is a plus. Activity Specialist are asked to implement activities with multiple groups per site. Activity Specialist may be assigned to multiple sites located in New York City throughout the week. COVID-19 vaccination is required. All positions will be in-person.
Responsibilities
Create and lead interactive, experiential workshops/lessons and activities for GK’s school-based academic and enrichment programs.
Serve as a positive, encouraging & affirming mentor for GK middle school youth.
Help with attendance outreach services including attendance monitoring, attendance incentive activities and phone calls.
Help with group management including supporting positive group interactions, monitoring group transitions between activities, ensuring safety during check in and dismissal and throughout the program hours.
Assist with supervising students, including ensuring that students are never left on their own.
Assist with chaperoning trips
Help with collecting program documents and attendance.
Follow all guidelines and protocols outlined by Global Kids, the Department of Education, Department of Youth and Community Development and the Department of Health.
Attend training as required by the Department of Health.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required or at least 3 years of expertise in their area of instruction.
Experience and enthusiasm for working with middle school youth using interactive learning strategies.
Ability to design and implement their curricula incorporating STEM, Literacy, and or Global themes using anti-racist pedagogical practices.
Serves as a positive role model for participants by upholding Global Kids guidelines while demonstrating professional language and behavior.
Passion for global issues, education, human rights and social activism.
Excellent facilitation, consensus-building, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills.
Strong work ethic, reliable, initiative, creativity, willingness to learn, and ability to complete multiple tasks independently.
Strong communication, writing, organizational, and technology skills.
International experience a plus
Fluency in other languages is a plus (particularly Spanish or Haitian Creole).
Proven background in the discipline you are intending to implement; ex. arts, dance/movement, theater, sports, media literacy, STEM, literacy.
Hours/Wages/Benefits
Activity Specialist will be required to work September – June during afterschool hours, plus additional hours of training, preparation and follow up time at a time to be scheduled with GK staff (typically between 1:30-6:00pm M-F, depending on the site placement). Position is paid $25 to $30 an hour (depending on experience) for up to 20 hours per week. GK also offers paid vacation time off, personal day, and sick time.
