To support a fair and complete count, Global Kids is working in partnership with the City University of New York (CUNY), Mayor de Blasio’s NYC Census 2020 office, and the New York City Council to mobilize New Yorkers to self-respond to the 2020 census. Global Kids mission is to educate, activate and inspire youth from underserved communities to take action on critical issues facing our world. For the census, Global Kids will form youth census “squads”, who will conduct public education workshops, special events, and census self-reporting activities in their school community and neighboring areas.
Job Description
Global Kids is seeking an exceptionally qualified candidate for the role of Census Manager. In collaboration with NYC Census 2020, the Census Manager will oversee the GK’s census engagement and outreach plan to educate community members about the significance of the census and the importance of census self-response; identify and dismantle barriers to census participation; and connect New Yorkers to the tools and resources they need to participate in the 2020 census. This is a full-time, temporary position beginning immediately through July 30. Potential to explore permanent employment when project concludes.
Responsibilities
Working under the Director of Programs for Global Kids, the Census Manager will:
Serve as the point of contact to coordinate with NYC Census 2020 and oversee GK’s census engagement and outreach plan;
Track and report census engagement activities using both qualitative and quantitative methods and report to NYC Census 2020;
Ensure that GK’s census engagement team adheres to all data security and privacy protocols around census engagement;
Supervise part-time census staff and volunteers.
Develop training modules/lessons on census, conducting outreach, and more.
Train the youth #CensusSquad at participating schools in collaboration with GK staff and oversee their outreach efforts.
Some weeknights and weekends may be needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree; Master’s a plus.
Three to five years in community engagement, campaign work, training or other forms of direct outreach;
Supervisory and project management experience.
Strong leadership, interpersonal, and relationship management skills;
Excellent communication, project management, and multi-tasking skills;
Experience with data management and reporting;
Demonstrated cultural competence with respect to youth and families from diverse communities.
Proficiency in use of technology such as laptop computers and tablets;
Proficiency in Spanish, Arabic, or South Asian languages a plus;
Some weeknights and weekends may be needed.
Salary
Prorated salary up to $60,000, commensurate with experience/qualifications. Comprehensive and generous benefits package includes paid time off, medical, and other benefits.
