Restorative Justice Specialist

Full-Time Position

Global Kids, Inc. is seeking a dynamic, hard-working, and energetic individual interested in developing, delivering, and implementing restorative justice services and programming in our Community School program at John Adams High School in Queens, NY. The Restorative Justice (RJ) Specialist works directly with high school students, using a community-based approach to justice used to strengthen communities, repair harm and restore relationships when wrongdoings occur. It is based on a core set of principles that emphasize healing and repair over punishment, inclusion over exclusion, and individual accountability with a high level of community support.

The RJ Specialist must have a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach and philosophy when working with all people. The RJ Specialist will work as part of a team to provide training, consultation, and service delivery to support the implementation and application of restorative justice within school and community settings. This position will be responsible for providing direct service to those who have been impacted by harmful behaviors, including offenders, victims, families, school staff, community members and other key stakeholders. The RJ Specialist will work with the Community School team, school faculty and administration, students, and families to provide Restorative Justice and mental health services.


Program Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site service delivery and system-wide implementation at schools, including services to build community and repair harm.
  • Provide accountability coaching to youth who have caused harm and provide support to victims and others impacted, identifying their needs and empowering them in the justice/discipline process.
  • Respond to case and discipline referrals to determine appropriate restorative responses.
  • Prepare participants and facilitate restorative circles and conferences.
  • Follow up on restorative processes and ensure that agreements are upheld.
  • Lead weekly meditation group/stress management group after school.
  • Coordinate program activities including coordinating circles, case tracking, and data tracking and recording.
  • Collaborate with the school community to improve current programming and develop new opportunities for service delivery.
  • Model and provide on-site support and coaching to staff and partners at implementation sites in community building activities and restorative interventions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholder groups to integrate and systematize restorative justice practices into existing frameworks (e.g., Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, trauma-informed approaches, Positive Human Development).
  • Work with school and GK leadership to provide on-going training, on-site intervention, and professional development in the field of restorative justice for educators, and Global Kids staff.
  • Work with other staff and students to implement the annual Global Kids Youth Conference and other special projects.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with multiple stakeholders such as students, families, school personnel, policy makers and other community members.
  • Occasional evenings, weekends and overnights with long-distance travel required (annual overnight or multi-night youth retreat, college trips, GK events).

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Track restorative justice data to inform future decision-making and provide impact reports.
  • Work collaboratively with site leadership and implementation teams to develop multi-year implementation plans.
  • Coordinate implementation teams and engage stakeholder voices to implement plans for activities.
  • Provide consultation and support around the implementation plan, policy and system changes, and aligning building.
  • Collect, input and review attendance, evaluation and other data related to projects and student progress.
  • Maintain necessary documentation/case files, as well as program data entry and records.
  • Complete administrative tasks related to maintaining assigned GK equipment, fiscal procedures (fund requests and expense reports) and other tasks.
  • Assist Community School Director with program reporting as needed.


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and six years of relevant professional experience or master’s degree in a related field and three years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong understanding of a wide array of NYC social service resources for youth and families.
  • Experience using interactive experiential learning strategies, counseling and conflict resolution skills, and youth development/leadership strategies with high school age youth.
  • Theoretical and practical understanding and commitment to restorative justice values, principles and practices.
  • Direct experience facilitating restorative circles and implementing restorative justice.
  • Ability to facilitate difficult conversations with youth and adults.
  • Commitment to and understanding of working in culturally diverse settings and using antiracist pedagogical practices.
  • Experience working in or closely with NYC public high schools a plus.
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, creativity, willingness to learn, and ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
  • Experience facilitating groups and trainings.
  • Excellent networking and relationship cultivation skills.
  • Experience building curricula and training modules.
  • Strong communication, writing, administrative, organizational, and technology skills (data management systems, Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Zoom).
  • Knowledge of and passion for global education, social justice and human rights.
  • Fluency in other languages is a plus (particularly South Asian languages and dialects).


This full-time exempt position has an annual salary of $45,000-$50,000 based on experience and qualifications.
