Senior Trainer (DC)

Full-Time Position

Global Kids, Washington, DC (GK-DC) is seeking a dynamic, creative, and driven individual with experience in youth development, global education, social justice activism, who has a strong interest in working with high school age youth.

Job Description

The Senior Trainer will lead the coordination and implementation of GK-DC’s weekly afterschool programming at various DCPS schools. This is a full-time employment opportunity based in Washington, D.C. 


  • Lead program recruitment, consistent participation and retention efforts to ensure program effectiveness and program deliverables are met.
  • Take a lead role in developing relevant program content and curriculum on global issues, social justice, youth activism, socio-emotional learning and college and career preparation.
  • Develop, lead, co-facilitate and coordinate GK’s unique global education program workshops and activities.
  • Coach and guide junior program staff in program development, facilitation, and workshop design.
  • Coordinate and assist with periodic parent/family engagement activities such as program orientation, academic and college info sessions, family fun night, etc.
  • Provide and support program participant academic and career counseling when needed.
  • Co-lead, coordinate and attend GK’s annual events such as conferences, special field trips, and overnight college trips.
  • Collect and maintain data for the organizational program quality and contract, including but not limited to attendance, enrollment forms, student files, case notes, and program materials/handouts.
  • Write program progress reports to principals, funders, and supervisors as needed.
  • Conduct special trainings for youth and/or other educators on occasion.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with school and other stakeholders.
  • Complete other administrative (e.g. file maintenance, ordering supplies, program expense reports).


  • Strong knowledge of and passion for global issues, political science, history, education and social activism.
  • Experience working with high school and middle school youth and/or using interactive learning strategies in culturally diverse settings.
  • Excellent facilitation, classroom management, consensus-building, and positive reinforcement build skills.
  • Positive and enthusiastic teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional work ethic, initiative, creativity, willingness to learn, and ability to juggle multiple tasks independently.
  • Exceptional communication, writing, and organizational.
  • Experience in/or strong interest in technology/digital media education preferred.
  • International experience, foreign language, and/or performing arts background a plus.
