DLL’s History

Since 2000, Global Kids has been filling a void by bringing STEM curriculum to students in underserved communities.  Originally when the program was called Online Leadership Program (OLP), the idea was to introduce Global Kids students to online communities and  to explore how the combination of Global Kids leadership programs and two could develop 21st Century Learning Skills. Through programs utilizing video games, virtual worlds, social media, and other forms of participatory media, youth involved in our programs had the opportunity to have their voices heard and make a global impact.

Today, the name change to Digital Learning and Leadership (DLL) reflects the evolution of Global Kids tech programs. Moving outside of solely online spaces to include makerspace environments and by utilizing open source technologies, such as Raspberry Pi’s, Scratch and Makey-Makey kits, the programs create hands-on leadership and community building opportunities for our students and help them acquire important computer science skills.
