Entry eight: Durban
I don't know whether this is all a dream, or whether I am living a reality which I am not yet ready to face. In fact, if this is a dream, I am not ready to wake up. The day I left for South Africa I was hustling and impatient and ready to be here in Durban. I don't want to leave but all good things eventually come to an end.
I am crazy... about South Africa!
This week is helping me see that I am part of different communities that face discrimination. And even though I see the problems that other communities face, I always believe that mine are the hardest to bare. But being part of many different communities has allowed me to appreciate the differences in everyone and allows me to care about what makes them different.
I am so happy to inform you that I am definitely famous. I was interviewed live for an American radio show, Democracy Now. I was heard all over the U.S. (Sorry Mommy and Daddy that you did not catch me but I did not know that I was going to be interviewed). I was interviewed about what was going on at the World Conference Against Racism and stuff.
Also, I never mentioned that I was interviewed on Thursday by a woman representing a U.S. NGO. I was nervous but when I was told it was already on the Internet (I forgot the url) I screamed so loudly that in my homeland (Narari, Pluto) I was heard.
Today is the last day that I will be going to the NGO Forum because on Saturday and Sunday I will be going to a game park (an animal reserve) about three hours north of Durban. I am ecstatic that I might be running away from a lion while it is about to trample my jeep. I hope the lion scratches the car and roars so loud that my ears pop. I hope that the lion sticks its paw in my window so that I can close the window and have a souvenir.
